Uganda has reinforced its position as a rising global tourism destination by strategically leveraging culture and sport as tools of tourism diplomacy during a high-profile showcase in Rabat, Morocco. The initiative, organized under the Explore Uganda brand, highlighted the country’s rich cultural heritage, diverse tourism offerings, and growing role in international engagement through soft power.
The cultural showcase, popularly branded as Uganda Night, was hosted in Rabat alongside Uganda’s international sporting engagements. It brought together government officials, sports leaders, tourism stakeholders, members of the Ugandan diaspora, diplomats, media representatives, and invited guests from across Africa and Europe. The event demonstrated Uganda’s commitment to promoting tourism through innovative partnerships that integrate culture, sport, and diplomacy.
Speaking at the event, the State Minister for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities emphasized the importance of using cultural identity and sports diplomacy to enhance Uganda’s visibility on the global stage. He noted that tourism today extends beyond traditional marketing and requires emotional connection, storytelling, and authentic experiences. According to the Minister, Uganda’s cultural diversity, natural beauty, and vibrant creative expressions position the country as a unique destination for travelers seeking meaningful and immersive experiences.

The event was spearheaded by the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) in collaboration with the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA). This partnership underscored the growing recognition of sport particularly football as a powerful vehicle for destination branding. By aligning tourism promotion with international sporting events, Uganda is able to reach broader audiences and create lasting impressions beyond conventional tourism campaigns.
A key highlight of the evening was a comprehensive destination presentation that showcased Uganda’s wide range of tourism experiences. These included wildlife safaris, primate tracking, adventure tourism, cultural heritage, culinary tourism, and eco-tourism. Guests were introduced to iconic attractions such as national parks, lakes, rivers, and mountain landscapes, as well as the warmth and hospitality of Ugandan communities.
Traditional music, dance, and storytelling performances formed the cultural centerpiece of the showcase. These performances reflected Uganda’s diverse ethnic heritage and illustrated how culture remains central to the country’s identity and tourism appeal. Events such as the Morocco showcase help strengthen relationships with Ugandans living abroad, encourage destination advocacy, and open doors for tourism investment and collaboration. They also reaffirmed UTB’s commitment to expanding Uganda’s tourism presence in emerging and non-traditional markets, including North Africa.
