The European Union (EU) has reaffirmed its to Ghana’s development agenda, announcing significant investments and collaborative initiatives aimed at bolstering the nation’s infrastructure, economy, and human capital.
€800 Million Investment in Infrastructure
Under the Global Gateway initiative, the EU and its Member States have pledged over €800 million (approximately GH₵13 billion) to support major infrastructure projects across Ghana’s energy, health, and transport sectors. This includes €55 million allocated for local vaccine production, €62 million for retrofitting the Kpong Dam, and an estimated €370 million dedicated to developing smart and sustainable cities in northern Ghana.
Strengthening Economic and Human Capital
Beyond infrastructure, the EU is investing in Ghana’s human capital. A €17 million fund has been mobilized to enhance employment in the green and digital sectors through technical and vocational education and training (TVET). An additional €15 million is earmarked to support entrepreneurs in expanding their businesses and creating new jobs.
Commitment to Peace, Security, and Governance
The EU has also contributed €50 million in military equipment and targeted training for Ghana’s military and civilian security forces. This support is part of over 30 security-related projects in Ghana, focusing on conflict prevention, border management, maritime security, and countering disinformation.
Collaborative Efforts in Climate and Sustainable Development

In alignment with Ghana’s climate goals, the EU continues to support initiatives like the Green Growth Ghana Project, which empowers women and youth in agro-forestry value chains through training in sustainable agricultural practices and financial literacy.
EU Ambassador to Ghana, Mr . Irchad Razaaly, emphasized the enduring partnership between the EU and Ghana, stating, “The EU remains a credible, reliable, and dependable partner to Ghana. In these turbulent times, it is ever more important to collaborate with like-minded friends and allies. We are here to stay.”
This reaffirmation of commitment underscores the EU’s dedication to supporting Ghana’s development across various sectors, fostering a partnership grounded in shared values and mutual respect.
