Kenyan Member of Parliament George Koimburi has been located in a coffee farm after an alleged abduction, intensifying concerns over political intimidation in the country. Koimburi, representing Kiambu County, was discovered early Monday morning in Ruiru constituency, approximately six miles from where he was reportedly taken. He is currently receiving treatment at Karen Hospital in Nairobi for severe injuries.
Mounting Tensions and Opposition Backlash
The incident has drawn sharp criticism from opposition figures, who accuse the government of targeting dissenting voices. Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, an ally of Koimburi, condemned the act, suggesting it reflects a broader pattern of suppressing political opposition. Prominent opposition leader Kalonzo Musyoka questioned the security measures in place, noting the alarming ease with which an MP could be abducted in daylight.
Koimburi’s abduction follows a series of similar incidents amid nationwide protests against tax increases. The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights reports over 80 abductions since June of the previous year, attributing many to state security agencies—a claim the government denies.

In February, Koimburi faced charges related to academic credential forgery and is under investigation for alleged land fraud and misuse of funds, allegations he denies. His recent ordeal underscores the escalating tensions and security concerns within Kenya’s political landscape.
